The third day of Iran’s training camp in Antalya brought concern when Rouzbeh Cheshmi suffered a sudden injury and was forced to leave the session.

After picking up an injury during Iran’s May 20 training session in Antalya, the Esteghlal captain, who has experience from the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, quickly left the national team camp to begin treatment at a professional medical center.

There were serious doubts over whether he would be ready for the World Cup, and reports suggested his tournament could be at risk. However, Cheshmi worked through an intensive recovery program and returned to the national team camp.

Over the past two days, he has taken part in Team Melli training, including group work, light running, and ball exercises, showing that he has recovered faster than initially expected.

Cheshmi has now made Iran’s World Cup squad and is hoping to stay fit for the official matches as he prepares for what could be his third appearance at the tournament.

His selection also marks a notable milestone: Cheshmi becomes the first Esteghlal player to be included in Iran’s squad for three World Cups while playing for the club.
